Smithers, British Columbia
I (aka - John Franken) have lived in many locations: Indonesia, Nederlands, United States and for the last 40 years my home has been in western Canada. For the past 25 years I have lived in a beautiful part of northwestern British Columbia. Photography has always been my hobby. I started with a Kodak box camera, then on to a twin reflex, learning to develop and print my own black and whites, acquired a Praktica SLR shooting mostly ektachrome, and finally graduated to a digital camera several of years ago.
Most of my amateur work has been scenery shots taken while travelling and hiking in the mountains of British Columbia and Washington. In the last few years I have been experimenting with bird photography on our acreage.
Our acreage is located in the pristine Bulkley Valley of northwestern BC near the town of Smithers where I live a semi-retired life after 35 years of teaching. In between running our bed and breakfast (Chickadee Acres – www. chickadeeacres.com), substitute teaching, managing a bluebird nestbox trail, participating in hiking and cross country skiing and church activities I find time to do some photography work.
